Lighting Equipment Going In

You've seen what our space looks like.  For a studio of our size to be located in the middle of Midtown is very unique.  I don't think that you'll find a space quite like ours anywhere on the island of Manhattan.  We have an endless effect from our cyclorama, which is another unique aspect to our construction.  But what about our equipment?  Well we wanted to provide some pictures of what the lighting equipment is going to look like.  You can only really get a glimpse of what it will be like, but hopefully you'll be able to tell that the quality is going to be really high. 1

We have spared no expense to make the lighting equipment as good as possible.  We will definitely give an update when everything is in position, but this is just a little taste of what it will be like.

These are powerful pieces of equipment.  We want to make sure that we are able to cater to any type of shoot that you could ever dream of, and we hope that these pictures and the pictures of our space make you believe that what we are saying is true.

We're looking forward to getting the lighting equipment set and in place!

Is There An Event Space Too?

We have gotten some inquiries about our space and whether people can host an event at our space.  We actually have a showroom for our sister company, Modern Vice, and their shoes.  That space is very adept for having any type of event, especially given how big it is.  Our photo studio is also fit to hold any great event.  Whether you would want a fashion event or really any type of networking event, the space is fairly optimal for it. We are also building a really interesting concept that we are calling the "Shoe Box."  The Shoe Box is going to be a closed-off glass space that will be specifically set aside to have events.  We are undergoing construction right now, and everything should be finished in the next couple of weeks.  You will be able to look into the space, and we think it will be able to hold 40-50 people.  It will look exactly like a glass shoe box, which will tie into our sister company, Modern Vice.  It's going to be amazing for intimate gatherings.  We expect to have small concerts there and other small events.  It will be a truly unique space.

shoe box event space is coming

The bottom line is that we have more than just one spot that can serve as an event space.  We have a lot of real estate, so no matter what type of event you are trying to plan, we will be able to cater to it and have a perfect space for it.  Give us a call and we'll talk through your situation and plan a great event.

It's All Love In The Studio

While we are renting out our space to the public, occasionally our sister company, Modern Vice, will need to do a shoot for their new collections and products.  Yesterday was one of those days, and let me just say, it was all about love. love in the studio

There's a lot that you could say about this first picture.  The first thing I would say is to look at how gorgeous these shoes are!  Any girl would look amazing wearing these in the spring or summer time.  Modern Vice truly does come out with some really awesome designs.  With their factory being right here in New York City, they have a really unique situation going on.

The second thing I would note is look how clear and endless the background is in this picture!  Without even having our amazing lighting in place, we can still produce awesome shots like this.  Just think of the potential once we have all of our equipment in place.

love again in the studio

This second shot just shows you more of the same goodness from the first shot.  These shots hopefully illustrate that anything is possible with our studio.  If you agree and want to check out our space, give us a call and we'd be happy to give you a tour.  See you soon.

Finishing Up The Painting

At the studio today, we are putting on hopefully the last coat of painting.  As you've been able to see from some of our pictures, we chose to paint the studio gray in the first half but then white for the half where the actual shoots will take place.  A lot of people will tell you that you just need a neutral light color for your background, and then you can use cool software to create a white endless background effect.  We chose to eliminate the extra step and make the background all white.  With this last layer of paint, and our cyclorama, we have created a truly infinite and endless-looking background.  We think it will be the coolest set up that you can find anywhere in the city. our painted studio

The trouble with white paint is that if you don't plan things out and use the right kind of paint, the floor can get scuffed up pretty quickly.  The trick is to use a more oil-based paint on the last coating, so if the floor ever does get scuffed up, you can easily scrub it away and then the studio will be back to looking as good as new very quickly.

We didn't want to spare any expense or leave out any detail that would prevent us from having the single best space to do a photo shoot in NYC.  We hope you agree.  As always, we invite you to come and check the space out if you are interested and/or in need of doing a shoot in and around the city anytime soon!

Our Rates

Some people have been calling in already to ask us what our rates are.  We are working to standardize our rates, but we haven't done so just yet.  From our experience, the needs of someone who wants to rent out studio space will always vary quite drastically from one person to the next.  One person might need the space for one hour and won't need to use any equipment.  The next person who comes in may need to use the whole space for three days and needs full use of our equipment and extra space.  The point is that standardizing rates for a photo studio isn't the most direct and straightforward process. our rates

In the meantime, what we would suggest that you do is give us a call at (646) 854-7568.  We'll be able to discuss your exact situation and needs.  From there, we'll come up with a customized pricing for you.  We also invite you to come in and check out our space.  We can show you around and talk more about your situation.  You'll get a better understanding of how truly unique our space is and what its capabilities are.

We hope this makes sense.  As we move along, we'll work towards standardizing the process.  In the meantime, feel free to give us a call and/or come in and check out our space.  We can move forward from there.

Cyclorama Here We Come!

Some of you have probably heard of the term cyclorama before.  If not, you can check out this page where they show a video highlighting how to make one for a photo studio.  For a photo studio, a cyclorama means that you have curved walls so that the pictures and videos you take give off the impression that you are in an endless room.  Check out below for a picture of our cyclorama. our cyclorama

You'll have to forgive us for the poor photo quality.  One of our interns took this photo with an iPhone 5.  You can see that the picture is muddled, but that is because the curved walls that we just got in place are having the intended effect of creating an endless room illusion.  This is the exact effect we are going for, and we feel that the construction of our cyclorama is going to be unmatched by really anyone else in the city.  This is yet another reason why we feel that Modern Vice Studios stands out from the rest.  Not only do we have a huge space with the best equipment, but we also have a 20 foot cyclorama, and we are located optimally in Midtown Manhattan.

Stay tuned for more updates from Modern Vice Studios!

Come Visit Us!

As we are getting ready to fully launch our studio to the public, we wanted to invite anyone who is interested in our space to come visit us.  The construction of the space is completely done at this point and we are slowly getting all the equipment completed as well.  The painting of the floor and the walls is done, so at this point it looks very much like a completed studio.  If you visit, you will get a very good idea of what our space is all about and how unique it is going to be for a space in Manhattan. visit our photo studio

What's also cool about our space is that it is attached to our sister company, Modern Vice.  You can see our shoe store and shoe factory and everything in between that goes into making one of the coolest fashion companies around.  Hopefully this convinces you that you should just check out our space for any number of reasons.

We are right in the heart of Midtown, not too far away from Times Square or Penn Station.  Give us a look if you are looking to rent a photo studio in Manhattan!
